Sketch Friday 9th July 2021
A week of extreams and change and hurry up and wait. A week of travel and work and seeing the world and opening up. A week of runs and walks and slowness and closing back in. A week of sitting at my desk sweating over notes and also of daydreaming while watching the world go by. Peterborough, Grantham, Doncaster, Wakefield. I haven't passed through these places for so long. Amazing to hear their names called in turn again. A week then of trains to London and Leeds. To London first for meetings. A real life catch up with my agent. Real life catch-ups rule! Then a rush and bumble through London. Getting lost as I hadnt done this for so long. Following the google dot on the google map the wrong way. Sigh. But then I got there. To meet collaborators I’ve been working with on zoom for the last year (everyone is taller in real life than I imagined🤓), thinking about climate breakdown and how to hold the grief so many of us feel about where we are in this global but very personal process. It's been absolutely fascinating so far. We are forming ideas about how we can make work/build experiences that looks climate grief full in the eye, but also frees us to carry on/build responses/learn/evolve and more... We all tried a VR experience and it blew me away. VR is amazing. So much potential. Anyway, that was massively exciting. And then home and the next day I was running up hills and hugging the oak tree that I love. It's a beauty. All rough and girth and calm. A gentle giant. I blinked and it was time to spend time in the rehearsal room again, this time with the Fantastic Theatre Blah Blah Blah team. We've been doing RnD on the most gorgeous children's theatre project called #GuerrillaGardening, all about a little boy, a refugee and the power of gardening to heal. Already, one week in, it's SO funny and moving. What a fabulois team: Deborah Pakkar-Hull, Dermot Daly and Qasim Mahmoud. I absolutely loved my time in the room working with everyone. And that whirlwind of town and country, speed and slow, thinking and doing. That's been my week. That's the news. Love to all. #DissonantFutures #climategrief #climatebreakdown #deborahpakkarhull #dermotdaly #QasimMahmoud #sketch #draw #paint #portrait #selfportrait #stilldrying
