Sketch a Day - Day 12/365
I can not explain the joy I felt yesterday when I saw two geese paddle across the frozen canal, to eat some of the fruit, greens and seed I threw out for them. Such proud creatures. I felt myself looked at, measured up. A clear decision was made. I was not a friend but neither was I a threat. Deemed good enough, they came closer. They got into the apple really quickly, but turned their beaks up at everything else. I was quite miffed as I had googled ‘what do geese eat?’ and the inter-bob said they loved seeds and berries and cauliflower leaves. Not spinach though. So I got seeds and berries from the freezer and even some cauliflower leaves out of the compost caddy. I was smug baby. I was certain i was laying a perfect goose feast out at these guys feet. The geese however did not want anything but the apple. One of them actually took a crap on the berries. The handsome arrogance. They knew this surly behaviour would only make me love them more. As I was starting to walk away, after watching for a while one of them looked at me and gave a grudgingly honk.and a weird little nod. I mean it could have meant ‘next time bring some fucking Warburton’s like everybody else’ but I chose to take it as goose for thanks. Or as close as a goose is ever gunna come to saying thanks. I felt quite honoured. Until it took another crap on the berries. And that's the news.
