Sketch a day - Day 59/365
A day of two halves.
This morning I worked at home on the Otherhood play. Ideas, ideas, ideas.
Things are forming…
This afternoon I came into the shared working space at Assembly in Bradford, to work on lyrics for a song I am working on (for the musical I am writing with Josh Goodman).
Coming back to lyric writing after many years away from song writing is endlessly exciting/exhausting/mind melting.
Musical lyrics are doing so much, in such a short space of time.
Really, nothing like writing rock song lyrics.
Right now Josh and I are experimenting a bit with the ways in which we work.
The idea is that we will both write a lyric without melody, then send it to the other and then we will write a melody for the lyric we receive.
We’re in the process of working out how we best collaborate.
It's such a ridiculously exciting process. I have never written a lyric that isn't sitting inside a melody before. I wasn't even sure if I could do it. But I have about 1/3rd of it now. So I guess I can.
Anyway, its been great to ping pong between thinking about the Otherhood play this morning and writing the lyrics this afternoon. It helps me with the stage fright I can get with writing, I think.
When I had a tea break I sketched a lamp, desk and some chairs next to me at Assembly.
And that's the news.
