Sketch a day - Day 94/365
Today has been about an Old Bird / Otherhood meeting in saltaire. Then home again, home again to do admin and write a synopsis. Busy blah blah. What's new?
I did manage to steal 5 mins to do a quick sketch looking up Victoria Road in Saltaire. I love the lions that guard various buildings on this street. I don't know if it's true or just legend, but the story I was told goes like this:
The lions of Saltaire were made by the person who created the lions for Trafalgar Square in London. These are the small tryout lions that were proof of concept for the big smoke design. So then, once made, they are all roar with nowhere to go, just hanging around doing nothing in some stone mason's yard. Enter Sir Titus Salt, who sees them and says ‘I’ll have them, lad”.
Probably a bit true, but not as true as I wish it was.
Nonetheless, whenever I walk down Victoria Road I always whisper to the little lions, that they make might not be the biggest but they got the scenic job. Sure, London is cool and great to visit, but if you want somewhere good to live, you get yourself to Bradford.
And that's the news.
